Oxygen Therapy

69134_5466Oxygen helps you breathe more comfortably and efficiently. If you are not getting enough oxygen, you may develop hypoxia. Our nurses are well-trained to recognize the signs of this disorder, which include:

  • Restlessness
  • Headache
  • Visual disturbances
  • Confusion or change in behavior
  • Increased respiratory rate
  • Increased heart rate
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath

Many different people benefit from oxygen therapy. It can be used for both chronic and acute cases to treat a number of disorders, including:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Major trauma
  • Breathlessness
  • Cardiac or respiratory failure
  • Cancer
  • Hypothermia
  • Neurodegenerative disease

Your nurse will adjust your oxygen based on the flow rate or concentration prescribed by your doctor. He or she will also help you decide which kind of oxygen delivery system you would like, depending on your desired portability, usage or humidity requirements. Once the equipment is delivered, your nurse will adjust the cannula and ensure that you are comfortable with its positioning.
