Glaucoma Awareness Month Quiz

Glaucoma is a disease which currently affects 2.7 million people in the United States and over 60 million people worldwide. It is actually a group of diseases which gradually steal sight, making it known as the “silent thief of vision.” Many people do not even realize they have glaucoma until it is too late, as there are no symptoms other than a gradual loss of vision. The vision loss begins with the peripheral or side vision, so it is not immediately noticeable until significant amounts of vision have been permanently lost. Experts estimate that rates of glaucoma will increase by 58 percent by the year 2030, with 4.2 million Americans suffering from the disease.

Unfortunately, vision that is lost to glaucoma cannot be restored. However, once diagnosed, there are steps you can take to prevent further vision loss or become entirely blind.
