Years at Gallagher: Six years
Job Title: RN Case Manager
City of Residence: Beaver Falls
Works in: I cover a lot of area, from Beaver Falls to Carnegie! My territory is mostly between route 65 and 376. I put around 25,000-26,000 miles on my work car annually.
Where are you from originally?
I’m from Beaver Falls.
How did you get involved with Gallagher?
I was looking to move out of long term care, and I was strongly considering moving to Portland, Oregon where I had some friends living. I wanted a total relocation or a restart of sorts. I got licensed in Oregon and was ready to start the housing and employment searches. I just happened to find Gallagher on Monster.com. Once I got hired, I dropped my plans of moving away!
What did you want to be when you grew up?
It was a toss up between culinary school and medicine. I had grown up working in different restaurants. In the end I decided on medicine and I initially wanted to be a flight nurse or work in an ambulance. I got certified as an EMT and was hired by ambulance company in New Castle. They had me and another new employee exclusively working their wheelchair band. I was getting the experience I needed for paramedic school or flight school. When I realized that was a dead-end, I went to nursing school. Now I can’t picture doing anything else. Home health care has rekindled my love for nursing, I love it!
Where did you go to school? What did you study?
I went to the Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in New Castle from 97-99 to get my nursing degree. I have been practicing since then.
How has working at Gallagher changed your life?
Gallagher has made me feel comfortable about owning a home. I had always been a renter, because it was easier to change locations or professions. I just bought my first home two years ago this July. I just feel really comfortable here. Working at Gallagher has allowed me to nurture some stability in my life. I have confidence in my ability to tolerate being employed by one company for such a long time.
What’s your favorite part of working at Gallagher?
Not having to be in one location for the entire workday. It’s a huge benefit for a field clinician. I love getting to work with patients one on one, which is distinct from a facility where you have many patients on your caseload at one time. Working by yourself in the field makes you autonomous and self-sufficient. Gallagher makes that easy to attain with the clinical support from the office staff.
Previous work history?
I did long term care before I came to Gallagher, in many different nursing homes. I also spent two years working in doctor’s office in New Castle. Gallagher was my first exposure to home health.
What do you do in your spare time?
I’m an electronic music DJ! I facilitate dance parties and also attend dance parties. I also like to stay active with outdoor activities. I try to keep my mind focused on health and wellness and exercise. I enjoy yoga, reading, and hanging out with my two cats, Tiara and Laksmi!
What’s your favorite color, band, movie, and TV show?
Blue, electronic music, “Pulp Fiction”, and “Archer”.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Indian food. My favorite place in Pittsburgh to get it is at Mintt, it’s the best.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I hope to be seven years closer to retirement!
If you were suddenly made president of the world, what would your first change be?
Nobody has to sleep on the street unless they choose to. I wouldn’t want to force people to sleep in a house if they didn’t want to. But it’s a good place to start.
What three items would you take with you on a desert island?
A bottomless tank of bio-diesel, a bio-diesel operated generator, and a speaker system to make music happen.
