Years at Gallagher: 8 years, since 4/16/2005. I’ve been with Gallagher since they started. I was the first aide and had worked with Diane before at another agency.
Job Title: Home Health Aide/CNA
City of Residence: Upper St. Clair
Works in: Mt. Washington, Eighty Four, Canonsburg, Cecil, Pleasant Hills, and Crafton.
Where are you from originally?
I am from Pittsburgh.
How did you get involved with Gallagher?
Years ago I worked at another agency and Diane was the director of nursing there. That’s how I got to know her, and we worked through a different agency for a while. When she left to start Gallagher, she asked me if I wanted to come with her. Diane is terrific – she’s easy to talk to and she set the tempo for the whole organization. Everybody’s very friendly, very open. If you have a problem they’ll work with you. Diane and Ben are just wonderful. Everyone who works there is a really nice person. It’s a terrific place to work. I’m on my own – they give me the jobs and I can go out and do my thing.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was younger I was working different jobs. But I thought given my personality that being a home health aide was something I would enjoy doing and be good at. I like home care this way, when you go to their houses. When I first started out I was in facilities. I thought it was terrible because you saw all these people that can’t get one-on-one care. That’s why I went into home care.
Where did you go to school? What did you study?
I attended CCAC to become a CNA.
How has working at Gallagher changed your life?
I think it’s taught me more about how to work with people, both in the office and out in the field because you have people to talk to. If I’m having a problem, I can go to the nurse in the office and ask them about it. It’s easy. Diane’s done a wonderful job with who’s she hired in here. She gets people who are knowledgeable.
What’s your favorite part of working at Gallagher?
The flexibility and ability to make my own schedule. You have a degree of freedom. Also, the patients like Gallagher; there’s a lot of repeat customers. They remember who treated them so well. A lot of them came from our previous agency.
Previous work history?
I have worked for around 25 years as a home health aide.
What do you do in your spare time?
My hobbies are my grandchildren. I have four of them and I love them to death. It’s the best thing in the world. Second to that is out working in the yard, planting and cutting the grass and that.
What’s your favorite color, band, movie, and TV show?
Neutral colors, Josh Groban, “NCIS,” and “Criminal Minds”.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Working part time with Gallagher and baby sitting a lot.
If you were suddenly made president of the world, what would your first change be?
I would make people realize that all this fighting doesn’t mean anything, because when you get down to the end of your life it’s not going to matter. The only thing that matters is that you have somebody in your life to help you through the end. I wish I could make people get along.
What three items would you take with you on a desert island?
Something to read, something to wear, and something to eat.
