Job Title: Patient Advocate

City of Residence: Heidelberg

Works at: Heidelberg location

Where are you from originally?
I’m from Pittsburgh.

How did you get involved with Gallagher?
Diane and Gary are my aunt and uncle. They told me they were starting a company, and I asked them, “I’ll be the receptionist, right?” So I started as the receptionist and office manager. I did that for six years. Then I became a patient advocate because I wanted to do more things with people. I started with three calls to patients, one before, one during, and one after care. After that went well, I started visiting two different patients once a week to get more information.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a “Solid Gold” dancer! In high school, I wanted to be a cosmetologist.

Where did you go to school? What did you study?
I went to Penn Hills Senior High School, where I got my cosmetology certification. I worked at Fantastic Sams for a while. After that, I went to United Travel School to get travel and hotel certificates. I really wanted to work at a travel agency. First I worked at the Hampton Inn in Greentree, and then I got a job at the Harley Hotel to be closer to home.

How has working at Gallagher changed your life?
I have worked in a lot of offices, but I never worked with families before. It’s a different feel because it’s home care. I’ve always been around it because of my family, but I didn’t really know it. It makes me feel better because it’s very rewarding. My life is better because we’re helping people.

What’s your favorite part of working at Gallagher?
It’s nice to work with my family. Everything is based on my Gram. It all stemmed from us together and we all have a piece of our Gram in us. Also, it’s close to my house so if my car didn’t start I could walk to work.

What do you do in your spare time?
Since I was in a car accident last year, I go to the chiropractor twice a week for physical therapy. It’s not very fun, but before I couldn’t lift my arms above my head and I can do that now. I also spend time with my friends and their kids, and I love scrapbooking. I take my dog Jovi for walks. He’s a Yorkshire Terrier.

What’s your favorite color, band, movie, and TV show?
Purple, Bon Jovi, Fleetwood Mac, Kid Rock, “Grease,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “The Voice,” and “Castle.”

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Pepperoni!

Where do you see yourself in five years?
I want to have a new house, but it probably won’t happen. And I’ll be at Gallagher ’til I die.

If you were suddenly made president of the world, what would your first change be?
I would get everyone healthcare insurance. I think it’s unfair that some people can get it so easy and some people who have been working their whole life can’t.

What three items would you take with you on a desert island?
My dog Jovi, music, and vodka.
